Were you aware that your current behaviors, strategies and methods may be grounds for stopping your website?

Currently there are millions of websites online. Many of them are not producing any results for their owners. Is your website full of dead static webpages? Are you getting any visitors to your site? Overall, how is your website beneficial to your business? What is it doing for you?

Although it is true that if you don't have a web site on the Internet then your business is at serious risk of being passed over by your prospects, giving your competitors the advantage. But if you're not running your site in an appropriate way then not only can it be a waste of time and money, but it may actually be counter productive, hurting your business, your image and reputation more so then by not having a website at all.

Check out these five reasons why you might want to stop your website.

Five Reasons To Stop Your Website

1-Your website is not well designed.

Website visitors are influenced by design and they trust their eyes more so then any other sense. If your website is not well designed meaning it is too busy, not very intuitive, includes a non-friendly navigation system or has technical problems such as scripting errors, slow loading pages, etc. it is easy for your site visitors to be blocked from the information they are trying to find and be inclined to see these problems as a representation of you and your business.

2-Your website is not up-to-date.

Do you have old, out dated or obsolete information or content on your website? If you do, your visitors may question your expertise or knowledge. Most visitors will not tolerate old and out dated content. If they go to your site and it's out of date, they will leave your website and go to your competitor's site. They may not contact you for this reason and in most cases will not return to your website in the future. There are literally millions of sites out there today that keep their information fresh and up to date. Some even update theirs daily or even hourly. These sites tend to be more successful. Remember, content is key. Keep it fresh and up to date and you will start seeing better results and an increase in website traffic.

3-You do not reply your e-mails regularly and with delay.

If you don't give the attention to your website visitors emails, then wouldn't it be fair to say that you may provide the same type of service and attention to your regular clients? Returning emails should be a simple routine you include in your daily tasks. I'm not saying you have to reply within the hour, but replying within 24-48 hours would be appropriate. I've seen this all too many times. You delay in responding to emails, while your competitor's timely response has started to form the relationship and trust that your prospect ultimately needs in order to win him/her over. All the while you are just now getting back with them for the first time. Now you are too late.

4-Your website is not optimized for search engines.

Once your prospects do a search on the internet for your products and services, they are being directed to your competitor's website who has invested in being indexed and ranked in the top search engines. All the time, money and effort you have invested in your website's design, hosting, support, content and emails is literally wasted if you don't have a good presence in the major search engines. Being visible on the internet once your site is up is vital to the success of your website. I like to explain it using this analogy: "If you had a highly sought after car that you wanted to sell and your asking price was very attractive, would you sell the car easier by placing it in a cornfield somewhere out in the country or would it sell quicker by placing it at the busiest intersection of your city's downtown streets?" Basically, you can have the best product or service in the world, but if it's not in front of the people who want to buy it then your chances of selling it are unlikely. You should target your audience and get listed and ranked in the top search engines. You should also consider other eMarketing methods such as ezines, articles, forums, banner ads, etc.

5-Insufficient information and facilities in your website.

Whether your doing ecommerce or not, if you don't mention your postal address, additional contact information or fail to include such pertinent information as price lists or descriptions of the benefits and/or value of your products and services then it will be difficult to capture your visitor's interest. No pricing information means no path for a decision or next step. Your site visitors make their decisions using many parameters but price seems to be most important in most scenarios. Other things your site visitors will consider are an intuitive shopping cart and security. If you don't have these items, then it's a good time to stop your site.

Summary

If you're deciding to create a website and you want to be successful, you need to have a strategy. Otherwise you are setting yourself up for failure and taking a chance of tarnishing your reputation, image, and business. Not to mention, wasting a lot of time, effort and hard earned money along the way.
